Themes: Environment
Name of the Project: Water Filling Robot
Water Filling Robot is a robot which can fill in the water in the pail without need human to construct it. The robot will automatically detect the pail, open the pipe and fill in the water in the pail. When the water nearly to full, the robot will close the pipe and stop the water flow.
Objectives:
Problem Statement:
For the final day before presentation, we have completed almost 95% of robot progress. Actually the robot progress already finish a few days before. However due to some problem happen to our water pipe and motor, we have to change the design as fast as we can. Below is our tools that will be use in our group presentation:

This bucket with water pipe is actually replacing the real water pipe. We decided to bought this bucket because two reasons. First, there is no real water pipe in the presentation room and second, using this pipe we can easily control the water flow and avoid water from overflow.

This is the rubber pipe that connect from pipe of bucket to the robot. This rubber pipe will flow the water from bucket to robot and next to the small bucket.

This is small bucket that wrap with red paper. The original color for this small bucket is actually blue. We have to wrap it with red paper because the light sensor on our robot will detect red colour first before stop moving. This small bucket function is collecting the water that flow from main bucket.
Since we have already updated the final progress of our robot in the previous post, so there is no more progress we can show for now. But for the next post we will upload the video of our robot. Thank you for viewing our blog. Any comment will be welcome to improve this site. Our report for this final week will be put below:

DATE: 11 March 2009
TIME: 0800 – 1330
TOPIC: Robot Finalizing
AIM:
The aim of this week is to finalize the design and make sure no more problem will occur.
OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, our group should be able to:
1. Finish the design of the robot.
2. Make sure no more problem will occur during and after presentation.
3. Finish with any modification on the robot and other equipment.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
1. (9797) LEGO MINDSTORMS Education Base Set
2. (2000080) LEGO MINDSTORMS Education NXT Software v2.0
3. Bucket with pipe
4. Small bucket
5. Rubber pipe
EXPLANATION ON THIS WEEK PROGRESS:
1. In this week, our group manages to finish designing the robot.
2. We managed to finish the modification on the robot and other equipment.
3. The programming have been improve since the last time we find small problem occur.
As the week progress, our robot finally reach the final stage of improving and editing. We finally have come out with the most suitable design where every aspect of maximizing robot effeciency been deeply analyze.
We have separate our design into 3 separate parts. The first part is the lower body part that support whole design. The previous design was not really suitable as the width does not wide enough to support the upper part since the upper part must high to reach bucket. So we added the width with gap between left and right tyre become wider and between back and front longer.

Top + behind view
Next is the upper part. Like mention above, we have design this second part to be high enough in order to reach the bucket.

This part is placed above lower part and join together. We have design this part to be slant forward in order to make sure the water that flow through the rubber pipe can enter the bucket.

Notice that we have placed the NXT behind of the model. The purpose is to support the whole weight of model since the upper part is slant forward. So in other word this NXT positioning will balance the weight of behind and front model.
Beside that, we also placed the NXT upright position because the upper part need support to avoid it from collapse. The NXT and upper part were joined together using component parts at left and right side, as shown on the picture.

The third part of this model is the motor that open and control water flow. This motor will open and close the pipe connection according to programming instruction. We have design the motor in simple design as it did not move and placed on the pipe.

So, the complete design of our model is the combination of all three parts which are lower part, upper part and controller motor. The picture was shown below:

That is all for now. Any other news or improvement will be inform in the nearest time. We are welcoming you to comment on our robot design. For viewing our report, you can see below:

AIM:
The aim of this week lesson is to design a Water Filling Robot and the robot able to function well.
OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, our group should be able to:
1. Finalize the design of Water Filling Robot.
2. Demonstrate a robot which can detect when the water is nearly full.
3. Demonstrate a robot which can detect the water pipe.
4. Programming the robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Software.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
1. (9797) LEGO MINDSTORMS Education Base Set
2. (2000080) LEGO MINDSTORMS Education NXT Software v2.0
3. Water pipe
4. Rubber pipe
4. Water
EXPLANATION ON THIS WEEK PROGRESS:
1. In this week, our group manages to finish designing the robot.
2. Besides that, our programming is also completed.
3. We manage to show to our lecturer on how our robot functions.
4. Our lecturer satisfied and approves our project and we are ready to present it next week.
As the week progressing, we have already think about about robot design which will be present at the end of semester. After a lot of suggestion and consideration, we finally come out with the first draft of our robot. As it function is to filling the bucket with water and close the water pipe when the owner busy doing other work, this robot is named Water Filling Robot.
The improvement of our robot is still in progress. However from what we have done this week, it seems like it still need some modification on it body frame and design. We have take some pictures for you to see:

Still, our robot also need more improvement on sensor and motor position. Thanks for viewing our blog. Any comment will be appreciate. For this week report, please see below:
